#10 Chef Anderson of DMACC Culinary Program

For those of us who’ve been in Des Moines for several decades, it’s hard to believe that we enjoy such a wide range of delectable culinary options. The variety of gastronomic quality and choices has been made possible in no small part by the nationally recognized Culinary Arts Program offered at the Des Moines Area Community College. (DMACC) You may not be surprised to learn that most of the fine restaurants in Des Moines feature Chefs and Sous Chefs that are graduates of this outstanding program…and for 35 years Chef Robert Anderson has been the executive director of DMACC’s Culinary Arts program. Chef Anderson’s influence and success cannot be overstated; he is one of only 99 American Chefs in the Honorable Order of the Golden Toque, and the only active chef from Iowa in this select society of distinguished culinary arts professionals. In this week’s interview, we are fortunate to visit with Chef Anderson, as he eloquently shares his passion for the culinary arts and helping students master the skills and mindset required to be a great Chef. Every day his work impacts many: after all, on any given night – in restaurants all across the country – graduates of the DMACC Culinary Arts Program are preparing literally tens of thousands of meals for lucky patrons. Enjoy meeting Chef Anderson. Until next time, make sure to create memories and share stories around your table.
